Splitting and segregating cell banks – whether these banks are used for therapeutic production or as critical reagents or raw materials for cell-based assays – and storing these stocks under GMP guidelines is an industry best practice. Cells can be stored short- or long-term at one or two WuXi AppTec sites in highly controlled and regulated GMP storage facilities.

Storage options within the vapor phase of liquid nitrogen are available for mammalian, insect or microbial cell banks. In addition, GMP storage of production lots or critical reagents/raw materials in either -20 °C or -70 °C freezers is also available. Various levels of segregation (shared or dedicated storage) can be reserved for cell banks or production lots. All freezers are temperature mapped and validated.

The GMP storage facilities at WuXi AppTec offer clients an opportunity to store their critical cell stocks, production lots and critical reagents, under exacting standards and QA oversight, in a highly monitored, secure and controlled environment. The cell storage facility at WuXi AppTec is operated under a stringent security program, which includes redundant temperature monitoring, 21 CFR, Part 11-compliant computer systems, fire protection and an auxiliary back-up power generator. In addition, the entire facility is monitored by a security system tied into a central station where a 24-hour watch is maintained on system signals.

Vials from the cell bank can be shipped to you as needed. Shipment of an entire bank or lot can also be provided in multiple individual transports.
